What is moxibustion?
Moxibustion therapy (moxa treatment) is administered by burning the leaves of the Chinese herb mugwort (Artemesiae Vulgaris) in a variety of locations throughout the body.
Depending on your ailment, it may be burned in several different ways: on the handle of an acupuncture needle, slightly above the skin, on a bed of salt, or on a slice of ginger. In the vast majority of cases, moxabustion offers relief where Western techniques provide little help for patients.
How is Moxibustion administered?
Moxa sticks made of mugwort, can be used on their own to stimulate an acupuncture point or can be used on a point where an acupuncture needle has been inserted. This simultaneous use of moxibustion along with the acupuncture needle intensifies the therapeutic benefits of the given acupuncture point. Conditions Moxibustion Can Help With
Rheumatic pain associated with arthritis- Ulcerative dolitis, digestion, loose bowels, & abdominal Pain
- Excessive menstrual bleeding & pregnancy Complications (most notably, breech fetus)
- Respiratory illness & asthma
- Soft tissue injuries
For more extreme cases, where many sessions are necessary, moxibustion is one of the rare types of therapy that I can coach you on, so that you may perform it at home. For more information about the technical aspects of moxibustion therapy, click here.
